Discussion 2 Bus 366 – Love and Hate Relation between U.S and Mexico
With the two countries having different cultures and the way of life-defining the economic status, they are most likely to collide in their daily operations based on the policies they have .common interest in trade -the relationship between the neighbors (US and Mexico) is challenging to understand with mixed feelings. This creates the aspect of the love/hate relationship. The common interest in trade would, however, promote the love aspect in the relationship. In 2018, the US, Mexico, and Canada formed a new trade USMCA (US, Mexico and Canada Agreement) deal which improved the previous agreement, NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) (Campos,2019). This shows some form of common interest in trade between the US and Mexico. This promotes marketing access for the two countries and increases economic and trade opportunities. This made Mexico’s economy boom and became a global competitor to the United States.
Differences in the economic status-to some extent, the variations in the economic status creates the drive for immigration among the borders of the US and Mexico. The immigration issues have resulted in major differences between these countries trying to control the movement along their borders. Therefore, the two countries should develop more effective policies to ensure they cooperate in dealing with the significant issues of immigration as most people move with the perception of seeking a better life in the US. Ideological differences from politics-ideological differences from politics define the various policies when a new political front comes into leadership. The new administrations would develop different strategies that impact the trade, immigration, and other issues at the forefront of the relationship between these countries. For example, the current US administration has a political approach and has blamed Mexico for immigration-related matters. This makes the Mexican government fear the discriminative practices of the Mexicans when the United States cracks down the immigration issues.
