Cloud Security Technique

Today more than ever, businesses are more digitally and marks great advancement in technology through tightening the advancement in security infrastructure. According to Jana et al. (2017) the internet has evolved and so has the business; however, this contributes to the increase in vulnerabilities in network and information systems as hackers take advantage of the interconnected system to exploit their weaknesses. Data and network security share some similarities and differences that subsequently impact ethical and privacy issues.

Data security is classified under information security and network security. According to Lu et al. (2018) information security refers to the techniques and processes that are developed to protect sensitive data and information in print or in electronic form from unauthorized access. Data is a valuable asset to businesses since it includes sensitive information such as personal identification, making it even more valuable to protect from damage and theft.

Network security refers to the measures taken by a business, individual, or organization to secure its computer networks and data using both software systems and hardware (Lu et al., 2018).  The main aim of installing network security is to help secure the accessibility and confidentiality of both the data and network. Therefore, every organization that handles potentially large data and information ought to have a high degree of protection or workable solutions towards the various cyber threats.

One of the similarities between data security and network security is that they are both dedicated to protecting data and information from unauthorized access. Information security focuses on protecting data from unauthorized user access and data modification (Lu et al., 2018). Similarly, network security protects data that flows through the network. Data security protects data from any form of threat, while network security protects the system or network from DOS attacks (Lu et al., 2018).

Data security provides availability, integrity, and confidentiality, while network security only provides security over the network (Lu et al., 2018). Data security protects both transit and stationary data. Network security, on the other hand, secures the data that is in transit only.  Therefore, data security is more dedicated to ethics and privacy for both stored and in transit data than network security, which only focuses on transit data (Lu et al., 2018).

Fault tolerance is a feature incorporated in the system to help in smooth functioning even when a failure occurs to some of its components. The primary aim of fault tolerance is to help increase the response rate and ensures that the entire system does not fail (Chernyi, 2018). Therefore, it works as a coping mechanism that is aimed to enhance self-stabilization. There are two types of fault tolerance, namely, hardware fault tolerance and software fault tolerance (Chernyi, 2018).

The hardware fault tolerance is a technique that empowers the system to carry out tests at certain intervals focused on evaluating any fault propagation. When it identifies any fault, it configures itself by switching out the faulty components in the established redundant (Chernyi, 2018). This can be achieved through the built-in self-test (BIST) technique that empowers the system to carry out the test at specific intervals that evaluate any fault in the propagation (Chernyi, 2018). In case there is a fault, it configures itself to switch out the faulty component. The software fault tolerance technique such as using N-version programming. The program copies are run simultaneously, and the one with the highest fault tolerance is selected; this helps the system servers detect the fault in the development stage and avoid potential complications in the advanced stage (Chernyi, 2018). The situation or type of configuration, either the hardware and the software level, determines the right or appropriate technique that will be implemented.

Energy consumption at the data centers is an issue of concern. Energy consumption has seen data centers pay huge power bills, and others are opting for sustainable and renewable energy sources such as wind and solar panels. In search of sustainable power sources and energy consumption, the following remedies can be taken; turning off the idle equipment’s, virtualizing serves and storages, turning on the CPU power management feature, and using highly efficient UPS (Rong et al., 2016).
